Aquarays and evaporation

Having said in previous threads that the new aquarays from TMC will save me money in lighting and evaporation. I was incorrect. Evaporation is still an issue. I have approximately the same amount of evaporation than i did when i used T5 lighting. So my advice is to still be prepared for evaporation in any reef tank when using LED,s This has made me make allowance for this with my DIY hood project. I was going to enclose the top, but think the best way to go is open top. But at least im saving 50% on my reef lighting bills.

My TMC Aquarays have arrived

Hooray! my Aquabeams have arrived. I ordered these Friday night and arrived today the 18t h of February . A Great service from Reefstore . One reef blue and three reef whites purchased as duo combos. They were £150 per pair, the cheapest i have found on the Internet with a £5 delivery charge. I have mounted these temporary to see how they look. Wow the blue is wicked. i was right to order just the one. The whites i find slightly yellow, but until they are mounted in my upcoming hood project, as the saying goes, time will tell. There is plenty of light though, glad i Incorporated this amount of aquabeams . The shimmer effect is amazing, looks really cool! At least now thanks to the really cool running of these lights my evaporation should be much less and most importantly the electricity meter should slowing down. As stated in my DIY Reef hood project post these lights will reduce my lighting bill for the tank 50%.

TMC new led lighting

Over the weekend i called in at one of my local fish shops and found they had recently started selling the led lighting range from TMC . I am very interested in this new technology and really consider this as a future upgrade. The shop had this lighting set up on a aquarium and was very surprised after some of the comments i have heard from other hobbyists. The set up consisted of the duo combo that has a marine white light strip and a marine blue strip. These represent better value as they are cheaper purchased together but WOW! the blue is megga powerful and would have to say that if using this lighting your gonna need two whites to one blue as a rough guide, although it is not the cheapest way to light your tank. Considering replacement bulbs with T5's and metal halide lighting and the massive reduced energy consumption the seem really efficient . The other great thing is the reduced heat, you can touch the light unit and not get burnt. This also makes you realize how much le...
